KOREAN BEER KID
My trip began with my trip from the Brussels central station to Tubize. Easy-peasy! Then I got on the bus to Birghes first-class style. I was luckily the only one on the bus on this lazy Saturday and the driver was nice enough to let me know when to get off. I walked just a few more minutes to be greeted by this wonderful sight.
Pierre Tilquin was just finishing up a tour for the previous group so I had some time to take pictures. There was a table where visitors can enjoy beer on-sight, but since it was only open from 10:30AM-1:00PM every Saturday, most people check out the blendery, drink a bottle, buy some bottles and head out.
Now that I had a glass of fine beer in my hand, it was time for me to check out the blendery!
When I first walked in through the door, I was greeted my this amazing view.
Rows and rows of barrels stacked on top of each other; beautiful sight of the stainless tank fermenting away with fruits; the smell of the funkiness. I couldn't be happier. Not to mention, since Pierre is the only one working on Saturday, you get a VIP treatment and a personal tour. I had the chance to ask him all the questions I wanted to ask such as "where do you source your lambic?", "how many barrels do you have?" or even "what fruits do you expect to experiment with in future?". Just like other blenderies and breweries, his barrels are marked with the source of the lambic and I had a chance to talk about our mutual friends as well. Pierre told me about his plan to utilize a room in the back in order to have a space where the guests can sit and relax to enjoy their beer. Although it was a cold winter day, especially since the furnace was not on, I was overwhelmed by his welcoming and respectful attitude. Also, how can I complain with amazing beer???
Don't forget to plan your trip if you are taking public transportation
I did mention that I woke up super early and planned my trip; this is what I found out:
I was super lucky since I was heading to 3 Fonteinen Lambik-o-droom and Pierre offered to drive me there after he closes the blendery. I cannot tell you enough how much I loved visiting the blendery and I cannot wait to visit again in the near future.
How to get to Gueuzerie Tilquin
Special thanks to Pierre Tilquin and his hospitality.
