KOREAN BEER KID
A few weeks ago, I had an opportunity to visit the Pilsner Urquell Brewery located in Pilsen (Plzeň) in Czech Republic. After an hour train ride from Prague and 10-minute walk from the train station, we arrived to the beautiful gate of Pilsner Urquell brewery. Oh and what a beautiful ride, it had recently snowed just outside of Prague and the whole way to Pilsen, we were greeted with snowy forrest and beautiful sceneries. We arrived about an hour before my scheduled tour time, and it was a bit chilly so we decided to check out the restaurant across the street from the visitor center.
It is a known that de Garde Brewing is one of the best wild beer breweries in the United States, and living in Oregon, I had the opportunity to visit the brewery several times, including last year's anniversary party. This year, instead of having a ticketed anniversary party, dG has decided to have the anniversary week, where the fans can come in on any one of the open days and can enjoy various bottles that dG offers. I have of course decided to visit dG with my good friend @austinlikesbeer to not only congratulate them but enjoy some of the finest offerings.
I mean... Do I need to say anything else? A visit to Brasserie Cantillon is a must even if you are not a fan of lambic. Also known as Brussels Museum of Gueuze, this brewery is tucked in near the residential neighborhood just a little bit south of the city center. I have been to the brewery a few times already but even now when I see the big wooden door and the sign of the brewery, I get excited like a little kid at the candy store.
In summer of 2017, I had an opportunity to work at the Carnivale Brettanomyces in Amsterdam, Netherland. Truly one of a kind experience through lectures but I have met some amazing people during my short stay in summer. So when I decided to go back, I tried to plan to visit as many people as possible and Tommie Sjef Wild Ale was on top of my list. Located in the beautiful seaside city of Den Helder about an hour train ride from Amsterdam, Tommie is a young blender/student who is getting more recognition that he truly deserves. I visited him on a very typical rainy Dutch day, and the wind in this seaside town was nothing to joke about. But once I arrived to the industrial area where his current blendery is located, I was greeted by the happy smile from the one and only Tommie!
3 Fonteinen is one of the most well-known lambic breweries and blenderies in the world. There is no doubt in that! So I was very excited for my first trip to their Lambik-o-droom location in Beersel, Belgium. My trip there initially made me return there for another quick day trip. If you read my post on Gueuzerie Tilquin, you would have read that I headed to Lambik-o-droom with one and only Pierre Tilquin. He has previously worked at 3 Fonteinen before he opened up a blendery of his own. When I walked into the door, I was greeted by Armand Debelder, the owner of the brewery.
My trip began with my trip from the Brussels central station to Tubize. Easy-peasy! Then I got on the bus to Birghes first-class style. I was luckily the only one on the bus on this lazy Saturday and the driver was nice enough to let me know when to get off. I walked just a few more minutes to be greeted by this wonderful sight.
