KOREAN BEER KID
Once a year, brewers and beer enthusiasts around the world gather up in the beautiful city of Amsterdam in Netherlands to attend lectures and tasting events of various breweries as well as people in the industry to embrace the funk. I had the opportunity to attend the Carnivale Brettanomyces last year, and found out how beautiful this "festival" is (I will talk about about why I put parenthesis there).
Tucked inside the small road from the main road of Slussen, Omnipollo Hatt is a bar that majorly offers Omnipollo beer but also has other local Swedish beers as well as other imported specialty beer. This bar is a one of a kind for me. Having been here many times myself, Omnipollo Hatt offers sort of a cozy (sometimes hectic) environment to the customers. From wonderfully experimental beers to fresh-out-of-the-oven delicious pizza, this bar definitely packs a punch on one of the top bars to visit when you are in Sweden, or in Europe.
Akkurat is one of the most famous beer bars in the world. Located in the Södermalm in Stockholm, Sweden. This bar is a special one; you simply do not see such extensive cellar list as well as the exclusive blends just for Akkurat. I sensed that most people have one bucket list when they visit Akkurat: Soleil Du Minuit, lambic blended with cloudberries just for Akkurat. Also known as one of my favorite lambic in the world. Let's look into what makes Akkurat so special compared to millions of beer bars in the world.
Thanks to a good friend of mine, Austin, I was invited to attend the soft opening for new location for Claim 52 Brewing in Eugene, OR, USA. He and I were literally the first one to enter their newly built location: A huge space closer to the general Eugene population from businesspeople to university students. What a beautiful space! The first thing that popped into my head when I first saw the movie theater style tap list was my visit to Brewdog's location in SoHo, London, UK. (visit their website to see the inspiration). Bryce Fisher, the headbrewer for Claim 52 Brewing, actually mentioned that he got his idea from the same location! What a coincidence!
If you have been following my Instagram or know me personally, you would know that I love my lambic.
What if I told you there is a place that feels like your neighborhood bar but can also satisfy your thirst of lambic? Well, that combination led me to eventually call Foeders in Amsterdam one of my favorite bars in the world!
So what's so special about Foeders?
- I remember my first time walking into Foeders in the summer of 2017, a merely few months after they have opened, but I was greeted by the laughter and the home-y vibe. If you ever have the opportunity to visit Foeders bar in Amsterdam, you will eventually get to know the owner, Yuri. He is ultimately going to be one of your best friends and give you the ultimate VIP experience. Belgium-native Yuri is passionate about what he does (and I don't mean just beer).
